Blog 10: “Sense & Sensitivity”

In the sixth episode of Angel, “Sense & Sensitivity” the Los Angeles Police Department is forced to undergo sensitivity training. This is because the last criminal they captured, Little Tony, has a good lawyer. His lawyer is from Wolfram & Hart, which seems to be where all the bad guys are getting their lawyers. This law firm seems to deal with a lot of supernatural clients. They hired a man who basically put a spell on all the cops, to do the sensitivity training. When all the cops start breaking down and crying and fighting with each other they forget who the bad guys are. One of the cops even lets all the inmates free because he feels badly for them.
In this episode you see the full spectrum of emotions. Just like in real life there are people who are too hard or too soft. Very few people know exactly how to deal with their emotions properly. One thing I noticed was how they were using “pop psychology” by referring to their childhood and talking about things their mothers or fathers did to mess them up in the head. While I agree somewhat with the fact that the way your parents treated you in your formative years has an impact on how you deal with your emotions, I also believe that if you are unhappy with the way you are that you can change.
Just because you have always been a certain way doesn’t mean you’re stuck that way. You can break free from the old you, even if you need a little help doing so. Don’t blame your parents your whole life for the way you are. Take control of your life and change your ways.

  1. Totally agree. We need to take control of our lives and not blame others for our shortcomings
